Facebook’s Current Security Breach

facebook

https://twitter.com/#!/mombloggersclub/status/136810189402800128 This is what I tweeted this morning. I am laying off Facebook for a few days until they get their security breach under control. I do not go to Facebook to see pornography and mutilated animals. If you haven’t seen the photos count yourself lucky. The photos I have seen are very disturbing. According to the Washington Post, this security breach is the most widespread security issue Facebook has faced. AllFacebook.com reports that Facebook knows there is a threat and they are doing something about it. Here’s what I have done to my account. 1) I changed my password – twice. 2) I went to my security settings and set wall postings to “Only…

Now Live: Facebook’s iPad App

fbipad1

If you’re like me you always thought it purely ridiculous that Facebook did not have an iPad app. Instead you had to use some developer’s knock-off until the day when Facebook finally stopped fighting Apple and just release the darn thing. After all it’s been ready for release for quite some time now. Even its lead developer quit Facebook for a job at Google in frustration about Facebook’s hesitancy to release it. Now, that’s no longer here nor there. Facebook’s iPad app is finally live!

iVillage Launches Celebrity Mom Blog

Alanis Morissette

Typically celebs influence all of us, but in the case of mom blogging regular, every day moms have certainly influenced celebrities. The way moms write honestly and authentically about their lives as women and mothers is something many celebrities envy especially when they weigh how much access their fans have with them.

Timelines Aren’t New, Memolane Coined Them First

Even though there is a lot of hype about Facebook’s new timeline feature I want to give a huge shout-out to Memolane for thinking of timelines first. I am a big proponent of giving credit where credit is due especially since Memolane has been working on their timeline site for over a year. I’ve always loved it. And, the great thing about Memolane is you can feed in a variety of social networks into your timeline from Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Youtube, and many more. You can even make timeline stories like the one I did for my trip to Kenya with ONE.org. Here’s my Memolane. advertisement // Jennifer JamesJennifer James is the founder and editor…

This morning I was reading Gizmodo about Facebook’s new Timeline look that will launch in early October. I am usually skeptical about Facebook changes, but this one looks pretty good as seen below. Believe me, you’re going to love it!

Google+ and Your Personal Privacy

google-plus-logo

There has been a lot of apprehension about using Google+ even though the social networking service is 25 million users strong after two short months. I even have reservations about getting too wrapped up in the service as I use enough Google products as it is – Gmail, Google search, Google calendar, YouTube, Google Maps, Google docs, Chrome, and Google reader. I’m not so sure still if I want to dive headlong into Google+.

Finally, Tag Approval on Facebook

facebook

You’ve been there. You’ve been tagged in a photo that you look horrible in. You could either leave the tag in place and wince every time you see it or you can remove it and risk looking like a meanie to whomever tagged you in the first place. Yesterday Facebook announced that you can now accept or reject tags on photos. This new improvement will sit quite well with those who are trying to manage how their profile looks to others.

Star in About.me’s Fall Promo

billboard-teaser

Just when I was lambasting About.me about their relevance for users they’ve gone and upped the ante for a what sounds like will be a rather huge fall promotion. About.me is running a contest where users can win a chance for their profile to be featured in their fall promotional materials including on a Times Square billboard. Additionally, the winners will receive a trip to New York City to attend an exclusive About.me event. The only drawback of this contest is it’s one of those “vote for me” promotions that tend to grate on people’s nerves. Despite that, I’m sure it will be great for whoever wins. Is Google+ Really Worth It?

I am proud to say that I am considered an early adopter of Twiter. I have been a user since 2007. Four years ago I saw that Twitter was going to be useful even though I didn’t know for sure how. I just knew I needed to be on Twitter and it has served me well over the years.

Why Twitter Remains the King of News Breaks

twitter-128x128

Twitter continues to be the go-to social network to find and contribute to news as it happens. Did you rely on Twitter to get the latest information when news broke last night about Osama bin Laden’s death?

What’s the Best Blogging Advice?

Writers, Mom Bloggers

There are a lot people proclaiming to be social media experts and being paid thousands of dollars to speak at conventions and conferences to dole out their advice. In my experience much of it is pretty cliché and predictable. Actually most sales and how-to books are full of the same advice over and over again – they just get packaged differently and presented in slightly new ways.

Do You Have Social Media Envy?

GettyImages_97363794

We’ve all had it happen. You’re at home going about your normal life when suddenly your entire Twitter stream and Facebook feed is being deluged by a hashtag for an event that you either weren’t invited to or couldn’t attend. At first it’s fun to see those tweets going by, friends learning and sharing info and interesting details, people connecting. Then it starts to get annoying. Your whole stream is taken up with retweets and the same info and quotes over and over again. Or maybe it starts to bother you because these friends are so obviously having an amazing time and you – well, you’re at home.
