How to Rule Your Friends’ FB Feeds: Cash!

News out of New Zealand confirms that Facebook is rolling out a test to see if users will pay to dominate their friends’ news feeds by paying to highlight posts.

This, of course, sounds a bit outlandish, but according to Stuff based in New Zealand Facebook’s spokeswoman Mia Garlick confirmed it was a new “feature” in test mode.

“We’re constantly testing new features across the site. This particular test is simply to gauge people’s interest in this method of sharing with their friends,” Garlick said.

I’m not sure paying to highlight ones posts would take off, but then again, who knows. If your friends really want you to see something, undoubtedly some of them will pay for that service.

I think this is going to push Facebook users away and onto the next best thing. Maybe more people will start using Google + now? Either way, I do not like it. As a small Facebook page owner, I do not have the funds to allow all of the people who have liked my page to see what I have posted. So, for the time being, only 6-10% of the people who liked my page are seeing my content. Not good numbers at all, but I will not pay for a service that should always be free.
