Gearing Up for 2012 Mom Blog Predictions
Each year I spend a lot of time determining what the next year’s trends will be in the mom blogging space. It takes a lot of commitment, steady observation and a little bit of luck to get the predictions just right. I take these predictions seriously and will publish my 2012 mom blogging predictions on January 1, 2012. I hope you stop by to take a look at them.
Over the years I have made some pretty bold predictions that have come to pass.
In Feb 2010 I predicted that mom bloggers would need agents. 2011 saw that happen in a big way with the Sway Group and even fashion bloggers who are represented by talent agencies.
In September 2010 I predicted that more mom bloggers would be tapped for longterm spokesperson jobs and I have seen those steadily come to the fore in the mom space. In fact, I have been offered spokesperson jobs myself so I know for sure that they are out there.
Again in September 2010 I predicted that product reviews would still rule the space in 2011 and with the recent story about toys and mom bloggers I see that I was spot on.
And in January of this year as a long shot prediction I said that mom blogs would be acquired by big media sites. I was awfully close with this prediction. I thought individual mom blogs would be acquired, but in actuality a huge collective of over 200 mom blogs (Babble) was acquired by Disney.
Although I didn’t get this prediction 100% correct I knew at the beginning of the year that 2011 would see mom blogs be acquired in one way or the other.
Stay tuned for my 2012 predictions on January 1.

It must be a great pleasure to find how successful your predictions prove to be :)
I have always been curious what the next trends in design and society will be and follow all the information available about that. Because I do believe that they are closely related. But your predictions seem to be much more concrete than trends and that probably brings more satisfaction.
In 2012 I hope you predict MORE spokeperson gigs that pay moms.
Looking forward to your predictions.
Can’t wait to see what they are. Over here in the UK we’re expecting increased professionalism and mum blogging going mainstream. Looking forward to your insight into the US world.
I truly hope that 2012 is the year when special needs bloggers get some recognition from brands. Maybe GAP could realize that my dollar spends just as well as that of my typical peers and puts a gorgeous kid with Down syndrome in one of their ads.
How about a long term spokesman who appears with her kid in the wheelchair? And perhaps Disney could use some of the solid research out there on how kids with special needs learn to create a show that not only addresses how to engage and help a child with special needs learn but would attract kids with autism rather than sending them into sensory overload.
No, I doubt that there are many moms of kids with special needs moonlighting as fashion design bloggers, or who on most days would consider their homes worthy of mention on design blogs…..unless it was firmly in the ‘before’ or ‘just burn it and start over’ category, but we aren’t going away any time soon. As the numbers of children with Autism, Down syndrome, and other dxs never before heard of, fight for their right to inclusion and respect, brands may just want to take note…..and even be on the forefront of something really big. Something that could help to change a whole lot of lives for the better. And of course there is the fact that these are some seriously cute and engaging kids too. :)

just started reading your blog earlier this year and have learned so much already. thanks for all you do.
I’d like to see those predictions.
Something I’m finding as I enter 2012, is a willingness on many small companies to listen to my advice as I respond to ‘blog review’ inquiries, when I suggest doing it slightly differently, or adding another component to their outreach and finding when I respoond in such a way that it morphs into new possibilities both for myself and for them..
I’m calling it the year of the ‘back-pitch’…
We’ll see!
Also freelance (paid work outside my own blog) seems to be much more on the front of my brain this year, anyone else??
Carissa, I would love to find some freelance work, either stand alone or from my blog. Not sure what that might be as of yet!
I hope your 2012 predictions are as lucrative for bloggers as your 2011 predictions were :)
Can’t wait to read them. Your track record is amazing.
I can’t wait!! Sunday! You are totally spot on. Pretty impressive really!!
Very excited to see your predictions! I do hope that it involves an expansion of the mommy blogosphere – as a fairly new blogger, I get worried that the field may be saturated!
Just started following you this year. Can’t wait to read your predictions and see what’s in store for the future =)
Thank you for reading and glad you found me this year :)

You’ll have to wait until Sunday — Just a few more days ;)
I look forward to the new predictions. I suspect things will not change much but will rather grow more intense in what took place in 2011
You’re definitely right about things growing more intense.

Interesting predictions. I now need to write a plan for my blogs success next year. Thanks for the pleasant reminder.
You’re welcome! Yes, planning is key. Here’s what I’m doing to plan: http://www.momblogmagazine.com/index/2011/12/its-a-down-week-organize-now/
I find it hard to filter out overall predictions with my own personal goals! Making my OWN predictions that match my goals doesnt do much for the collective… :)
I’ll definitely be tuning in to see what’s in store for 2012! You’re the modern day mommy blogger Nostradamus! LOL!
What a tease! On the other hand, perhaps I can try and get mine out before yours for once. ;-)
