Save Your Minutes and Skype Instead

There are generally plenty of minutes available on our family plan, but some calls I know will take much longer. For instance, sometimes a conference call can run well over an hour. This is where Skype comes into the picture to help me save my cell phone plan minutes.

More good news: Now, when I’m on the go I can use Skype via my cell phone and still not use up any cellular minutes. Granted, this will use data, but if you have unlimited data plan, this is a good option to try.

With 3G, 4G, and WiFi you can connect via Skype through mobile apps. Many devices will also support video calls. The instant messaging that many of us use daily for business is also available via the Skype apps on our phones.  Plus, Skype to Skype calls are free, if you have one of their plans (or want to pay per minute).

While it may seem odd to pay for Skype calls rather than using your cell phone plan, the cost per minute is cheaper on Skype than it is on most cell phone plans if you go over your monthly limit.

In my Skype contact list I have several people that I only connect with via Skype instant messaging. You can easily carry on those text chats via your phone on the go now. The app syncs up with your Skype account when you log in via your cell phone or on your computer so your contacts are always up-to-date no matter which method you use to connect.

You can find all the Skype supported phones and about their free and pay items on Skype.com

One of the most common phrases friends hear from her, “there’s an app for that” and then she proceeds to pull out her own mobile appliances and show them! Now she has drawn Hubby and Taylor (son age 16) into the mix and the whole family shares apps and mobile tips with each other. Robyn also blogs at www.RobynsOnlineWorld.com where she shares the real Robyn, just in an online version. If it happens offline, you can bet Robyn will share it online.

    Thanks Robyn,

I looked allover Skype for this info but it was nowhere to be found. Is this for supported Android phones on any US carrier?
