Quotes from Notables: Kim Coleman

Question: What is your best advice for mom bloggers who want to work with more brands in 2011.

Be clear regarding how you want to work with brands and act accordingly. Don’t let other bloggers, PR people or even brands make the decision for you. Take responsibility for your personal blogging journey.

If you are fine doing reviews, giveaways and attending brand events, then that is great.  Do you.  However, if you are ready to move from hobby to business, know that it is possible.  Tap into all that you have at your disposal – natural gifts, passions, past work experience, current social media connections, etc. – and go for it!  Let the brands that are natural fits know that you would like to work with them on another (monetarily compensated) level.  You will never know the outcome unless you ask.  The worst that can happen is that they will say “No” and you will be exactly right where you currently are at.

Sponsorships, endorsements, advertising, consulting, event planning and hosting and writing on brands’ sites are just a few ideas to get your mental wheels turning.  (Brands also like to pay for Twitter parties. That’s just not my thing, but it might be yours.)  Anyway, I am living proof that you can make the switch from hobby to business.

Earlier this year I set a financial goal to make enough to “pay my mortgage” each month through social media checks. I am happy to report that I exceeded my 2010 goals.  Yes, I worked hard but the biggest hurdle was a shift in my mindset.  We can all do even greater things as we work with brands in 2011!
