MJ Tam, Noted Chicago Media Maven, Announces New Midwest Mom Blogger Summit

Conference fever is rising as 2011 promises to usher in a new year of mom blogger gatherings. Yesterday, MJ Tam, founder of City Connect Media, announced the Brands and Bloggers Summit slated for the summer of 2011 in Chicago. In an email interview I asked MJ why she saw a need for the summit and what her plans are for her summer gathering.

Why did you decide to create the Brands and Bloggers Summit?

I have been very successful in creating a lot of head-turning events that are very different from the normal social media mixers and they are always events with brands’ and companies’ goals and needs in mind. I am always asked by fellow bloggers how I create these successful relationships with brands that have always supported my events. I also enjoy connecting people together and I really see the need to create an event where the most important part was to help connect.

What do you think will make it different than other summits/gatherings/conferences?

The event is really designed with both bloggers and marketers in mind. I hope to help demystify the digital divide between both sides. We all know marketers need bloggers and bloggers need marketers, why not get them all in one place and give them both a chance to sit down, create conversation, and build a community together.

Another thing that is different about the event is we are really focusing on getting the seasoned bloggers to join us. There will be no how-to classes on technical stuff. What we are bringing are in-depth conversations about blogger relations and how to further amp up their blogs and brands “together”.

What else is different? Have you seen our rockstar dream team list of speakers? Just having them on board makes me giddy about how incredible the panels will be. Attendees will leave the summit with invaluable information from both bloggers and marketers like Wendy Piersall, Sarah Evans, Nancy Loo, and many many more. I hand-picked and invited each and every one of the speakers and I’m truly blessed that they all jumped on in. Wow!

I see that the Brands and Bloggers Summit has a regional appeal. Do you think you will branch out nationally?

Absolutely. But I wanted to start where I’m comfortable. I know it’s easy for me to build this event in Chicago with the kind of network I have. So this is just getting my feet wet and feel a little more at ease than bringing an entire event elsewhere. I’ve taken many events on the road before but not at this magnitude. We’ll see how this goes first.

What type of sponsors will be a great fit for the summit?

Anything and everything that markets to women and families. I would love to get brands and companies who will be there to share knowledge and are serious about building authentic relationships with bloggers and ultimately bring business to bloggers.
